Baggage Woes: Can you fit it?
Private jets create a feeling of ease, comfort and of course exclusivity that is unparallel. While passengers may have more than enough space for lounging, it’s important to make sure over-packing all of those fabulous accessories doesn’t leave you with luggage left on the tarmac!
Know your jet’s baggage capacity before you get on the jet. A summer in the Hamptons can be majorly delayed when you have to ship your luggage from the airport! Below check out the different size jets and what you can actually take with you.
Light Jet (ex. Hawker 400XP, Citation CJ2, Premier)
Average Baggage Capacity: 53 – 77 cubic feet
Light Jets are good for about one large bag per person (light jets typically hold 6-7 passengers). Anything more than that could get a little tight.
Mid Size Jet (ex. Lear 60, Hawker 800XP, Citation III)
Average Baggage Capacity: 48 – 80 cubic feet
Mid Size Jets give passengers the flexibility to back a little bit more frivolous, but not overly. Stick to similar guidelines as the Light Jets: one large bag person (7-8 passengers) or a bunch of smaller bags.
Super Mid Jets (ex. Challenger 300, Citation X, Falcon 50)
Average Baggage Capacity: 41 – 135 cubic feet
With 8-14 passengers fitting into these Super Mid Jets, there is much more room for traveling with extra luggage. Golf clubs, Skis and trucks fit comfortably into these jets with little effort.
Heavy Jets (ex. Challenger 604, Gulfstream IV, Legacy, Falcon 900)
Average Baggage Capacity: 115 – 367 cubic feet
If you’re worried about traveling with extra luggage, a Heavy Jet is the way to go. These aircraft can fit 10-19 passengers a plenty of extra bags, large and small!
In many cases, the cabin can be used to hold extra bags, but this usually means sacrificing either the lavatory or a couch – for those long cross country trips, that would make thing much tighter. Planning ahead alleviates these issues, so its smooth sailing.. err…. flying!
