The Most Haunted Places on Earth: Travel if you Dare
Are you a Halloween fanatic? Do you go searching for all things creepy, supernatural or downright scary? In celebration of the upcoming All Hallows Eve, here are 10 of the most haunted places on the planet.
L’Empire de la Mort

Translated to “The Empire of Death”, the Catacombs of Paris are a section of old stone mines that became an underground cemetery after the graveyards became overcrowded. The bones were moved into the tunnels in 1785 and now hold the remains of almost 6 million people. Spirits are said to haunt the catacombs still to this day. Visitors claim hear creams and voices as they wander throughout the maze of tunnels.
The Amityville Horror House

In 1974, a man shot and killed six members of his family in their home in Amityville, NY. Thirteen months later, the Lutz family moved into the dutch colonial with their 3 children. Immediately after moving in, the family began to experience paranormal activities including mysterious music playing, blood oozing from the walls, and slamming doors that only certain family members could hear. The Lutz family moved out of the house only 28 days after moving in.
Alcatraz Prison

Just off the coast of San Francisco, Alcatraz Island became a prison in 1861, original used to hold prisoners during the Civil War. It has held some of the country most notorious criminals including Al Capone and “Machine Gun” Kelly. Some claim that some inhabitants were put in solitary confinement, tortured or even put into a special room called the Strip Cell, where they would spend the day alone in darkness. In 1963 Alcatraz was closed due to refurbishing costs, but spirit of some of the prisoners’ remains.
Tower of London
This fortress along the River Thames in London has a long history of some of the most infamous and legendary imprisonments and executions the world has ever seen. With beheadings and hangings as the standard execution styles, there are many ghosts left to haunt these halls. Anne Boleyn, Henry VI and Lady Jane are all known to wander the castle. A prison guard is even said to have died of fright after seeing a ghost coming towards him.
Salem, Massachusetts

Best known for the Salem Witch Trials, this haunted town was immortalize in 1692 when accusations of witchcraft lead to mass hysteria through the New England area. After the men and women were convicted of their crimes, 19 were hanged, 5 died in prison and one was crushed to death by heavy stones.
